It’s a great way to get smooth, shiny hair that resists frizzing. Hair tends to frizz when the cuticle, the outermost layer of the hair, lifts. Under a microscope, the cuticle will look a bit like shingles on a roof that are beginning to curl upward or lift. This lifting action enables moisture to enter, swelling up the hair shaft and making it thick and frizzy. By coating the hair strand with a keratin treatment, the hair shaft is not only being smoothed down but it is also being sealed, preventing frizz and breakage. Your hair will look and feel healthier as a result.
The time required to do a keratin treatment depends on the formula being used, the hair texture, and the hair length and volume, so your salon visit could take two to four hours. Your hair will be washed with premium-quality salon products when you arrive. Your treatment will vary according to your hair’s needs after washing. The keratin treatment will either be applied to your freshly-washed hair and left to saturate each strand for about half an hour, or Chance will blow-dry your hair first and then apply the treatment. Coarse strands will be reinforced with a flat iron on medium heat to seal the product.
How long does a keratin smoothing treatment last?
Results can last up to anywhere from eight weeks up to six months. This treatment product is sold under a variety of different brand names, but Chance specializes in creating a custom blend for each client’s needs. Some versions of the treatment release formaldehyde when heat is applied. However, other versions are formaldehyde-free, and again, Chance customizes the blend for each client. Any hair type with damaged, ultrafine, or brittle hair should consult with Chance prior to getting a treatment to ensure they will not damage or endanger their hair.
